  • Make a list of primary stressors in your life. Make a second list of your triggers for anxiety.
  • Identify what can be removed from each list and commit to it.
  • Learn to set boundaries. If you are a people-pleaser, let go of the fantasy.
  • Share with significant others that you are working on stress reduction and healthy living.
  • Don’t be a martyr. Ask for help when feeling overwhelmed and accept help when it is offered.

Taking action in reducing stress today, may be the very thing that extends your life.  Not only will you have more time for joyful, fulfilling activities, but less anxiety and stress is likely to improve your relationships. 

Simple stress reducers for every day:

  • Commit to being less committed.
  • Pass up on hosting or overseeing family or work-related events.
  • Learn to say no to favors and last-minute requests.
  • Bring home takeout food or prepared meals occasionally.
  • Stop being a people pleaser. The need to make everyone happy is not realistic.
  • Prioritize time with people who rejuvenate you. Or, enjoy alone time.
  • Allow yourself to rest. Take a cat nap or put your feet up.
  • Let go of the perfection fantasy. The laundry and dishes can wait. Additional work will always be available.
  • Listen to your body. Your body will tell you when you’ve done enough for the day.
